look what I can do! buffalo baby photography

Here’s my little nephew, 6 months old, and such a stud! I saw him exactly 7 days before taking these pictures. He was not sitting up un-assisted…in fact, he would stiffen up and REFUSE to even try sitting up for me. We had a little chat, him and I…and I told him in no uncertain terms that he needed to quit messing around and take this ’sitting up’ business seriously.
TAAADDAAAAAA!!!!

btw-not sure what’s up with my latest polka dot obsession…but I can’t help myself!

‘the pose’…minneapolis newborn photographer

I keep telling myself that I need to limit the ’sneak peek’ to about 2 or 3 pictures…but seriously, how can I choose just two of this adorable little girl? I didn’t really know how she was going to do, seeing as she came into my studio crying at the top of her lungs! Obviously, she got over it…and gave us these cute pictures!

I’ve never tried a newborn ’sitting up’, but she seemed to like it…she also liked snuggling with the bunny.

I looked this good after having my babies too…not. Is it still acceptable to say ‘not‘?

And-she’s up! This kid was on the ball-check out the eye contact!

The last one is my attempt at ‘THE POSE’. What the heck is that, you ask…well, in photoland-there is a new-ish craze out there to get newborns to pose with their elbows propped up, holding their head up with their hands. I’ve tried it repeatedly, and have yet to master it! I love this picture, but I cheated-and photoshopped dad’s hand out. So, bring me your fresh babies-so that I can bend them into strange positions in the hopes of getting ‘THE POSE’….

I spent 7 days in Florida, and I don’t have a hint of color to show for it. How lame is that? We were wearing coats and mittens in Epcot and Magic Kingdom, but it kept a lot of the crowds away, so that was nice! Since I was gone, we had to postpone this little guys pictures for a week. I was a little nervous that he would be too ‘old’. The ideal age for newborn photography is between 5 and 10 days…after that they start to uncurl. Thankfully, he proved me wrong! He’s such a cutie-love those lips!

Life is short. I know, I know, we hear it all the time. A few months ago I was hanging out at home with the fam, and my middle son Riley (who had just turned four) was snuggling on my lap. I said to my husband, “you know, by the time he’s five, he’ll probably want nothing to do with me!” My husband said, “well then, you’ve got about 346 days left.” That single comment hit me like a ton of bricks. Now, whenever my kids do something cute (or not so cute) I am constantly thinking, “well, how long till that stage is over?”
Which brings me to my point. Get pictures taken. I know this sounds like an incredibly cheesy gimmick coming from a photographer, but it’s true! I’ve heard so many excuses for why people wait to take family portraits. Why wait?
top five reasons why people put off having portraits taken:
5. We can’t find matching outfits. Who ever said you all had to wear the same shade of fushia?
4. We’re going to wait until fall, when the leaves change. Fact: fall only lasts anywhere from 5 to 15 days in Minnesota. (fact-I made that ‘fact’ up, but it sounds about right!)
3. I have my own digital camera, and I’ve taken thousands of pictures of my family! True, and those pictures you’ve taken will always be very important to your family. But once in awhile, it’s really nice to have professional portraits taken. You’d be surprised at what a photographer can get your kids (and even husbands) to do, that you just can’t!
2. We don’t have the money for pictures. Now, I get this one-I do! I often wonder how much I would pay if I didn’t already do this for a living. Who’s to say I wouldn’t be dragging my kids into Walmart every year for the $4.99 special? But I’ve been thinking about what kinds of thing people value…and here’s a thought. Say (hypothetically) your house is burning down (work with me here!), after you rescue your kids and pets…what’s the number one thing you would want to save? Big screen TV? Your new Kenmore Mixer? Well, I don’t know about you, but I would be racing to save every picture I could get my hands on. Not sure if I made my point here, but you get the idea-pictures are so important-you have to spend a little money on them!
1. I’m going to get pictures done, after I lose another 5lbs. I am as guilty of this excuse as the next gal (or guy). But guess what, you’re family doesn’t care! Just YOU care. They love you and they want you to be in the stinkin picture, so just suck it up (or in, in this case) and get over it. And for a small fee, I can put you on the ‘photoshop diet’, guaranteed to take off at least 10lbs or your money back!
Phew, got it all out of my system…now I can go enjoy my vacation time with a clear conscience. That’s right…the Klatt Fam is heading south. We’re leaving the brittle, painful cold of Minnesota, and heading to the un-seasonably chilly Florida. Weather reports are not looking very promising…but anything is better than negative temps we’ve had all week. My in-laws are taking 13 of us to Orlando to stay in a timeshare. We’re hoping to hit Disney World a few times…when in Rome, right? So if you send me an email, it might take me a few days to get back to you.
I’ll leave you with some pictures of my youngest enjoying his first candy cane. It’s funny how something so simple can make a kid so happy. He sat in his high-chair and ate every last bite.

brothers don’t shake hands…brothers gotta hug! buffalo kids photographer

Sorry…when I was thinking of a title (which is the hardest part for me) this quote from Tommy Boy kept running through my head. And these brothers do like to hug…and wrestle…and just be boys! Oh, and they came all the way from Florida just so I could take their pictures! Well, not quite…they actually came to Minnesota to be with their family for the holidays, and the picture part was sort of a last minute idea. (Insert picture of parents frantically clothes shopping at Target at 10pm the night before). I am currently trying to convince them to fly me to Florida next year for beach pictures. Stay tuned for further developments on that front.
Here’s a little sample of what we got…more than a few samples really, since they are good friends of ours! Not to mention they’re flying me to Flordia some day soon…

trying to be ’serious’ and failing miserably…but still cute!

”Yeah, my hat is upside down…what of it?”

Same kid…different hat and personality.

Note his little smirk…that’s due to the fact that he’s clutching a piece of candy in his little fingers.

Now, most of us have Christmas Day off of work. It’s kind of a big deal….but when you’re having Christmas at your in-laws and they happen to be your next door neighbors (think Everybody loves Raymond…but not nearly that extreme) things happen. The kids were all dressed to the nine’s (thanks Grandma Klatt!) and we had exactly 25 minutes before the roast would be finished. We packed all 6 of them in the van and drove over to our house (we weren’t about to walk through a field with a foot of snow). My little guy (the handsome blonde in the front) gave us about 38 seconds of his time, and then it was over. No time to get creative, heck, I’m just happy they’re all in the frame! Oh, and in case you’re wondering, this is about as many people as I can squeeze into my little studio. I was already shooting from out in the hallway! Someday I’ll have my dream studio….someday.

My SIL’s fam…

My other SIL’s fam…

I’m so happy that I got this shot. It was Christmas morning and they were all standing near the tree. I grabbed my camera from the kitchen and yelled ’smile’!!! I snapped this one, and by the time I got close enough to actually see what I was doing, Brady was off like a shot.

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas. Ours was fabulous…once again, we were all spoiled. We spent Christmas Eve with my folks in Golden Valley. We went to church at King of Grace (which is where I went all of my life until I moved out here). The choir was awesome, and we got to sing all of our favorite carols. Afterwards we ate ourselves silly and then opened presents. What do you get for the kids who have everything? I don’t know, but they managed somehow! Kor and I (well, mostly me) got a GARMEN!!! WOOHOO! I’m so excited! Now when I meet clients in the cities (or wherever) I won’t have to pull over 6 times to study my mapquest directions! The drive home that night was a little scary (major snowstorm), but we made it. Christmas Day was (as you saw) spent with Kor’s side of the family. We spent much of the day playing Wii…which I was a bit skeptical of, but I’m now a fan! Guitar Hero is beyond addicting! Once again, we got tons of presents and treats! We were supposed to go to their church in the morning, but the snow was so bad that we had a little ’song’ service of our own.
Well, that’s probably more than you wanted or needed to know about our holiday! Next up, New Years. I believe a game night is in the works. Anyways, I’ll let you get back to your regularly scheduled program.

Twas the night before Christmas and all thru the house….
not a creature was stirring…not even a mouse (better not be any dang mice)
The children and hubbie were all snuggled all in bed
And I was wide awake as I surfed on the web.
Okay, that’s enough poetry! Tomorrow is Christmas Eve day, and every year we have a little ‘our family’ Christmas morning on that day. This year, Korey has to get up at 4:00am to go and plow snow (which is why he’s sleeping at 9:20pm and I’m wide awake!). We are getting hit with a GIANT snowstorm. The weather folk have been referring to it as either ’the storm of the century’ or ‘Snowmagedden’. I prefer snowmagedden…but that could be because I think of Ben Affleck…
They are predicting upwards of 18 inches in our area over the next 3 days. Definitely getting our white Christmas, plus a little extra.
Here is my Christmas card that I sent out. I tried something different this year…a trifold card. It was a little tricky for me to design, but I LOVE how it turned out. I should have taken pictures of the actual card, oh well.

A few things you need to know about this gorgeous little girl.
1. She does not like sitting on chairs, so don’t even try. Loud screams will ensue.
2. She has ‘ballerina’ genes…check out the toe point in every picture!
3. It’s her 1st birthday…so obviously she got her own personal cake to smash!

After playing with her cake for awhile, she realized that not only is it fun to smash…but it is delicious as well! mmmmm….Her daddy was a little nervous that she was going to get sick at the rate she was going. I hope you didn’t have a ‘messy’ car ride home!

Only a week old, and already calling the shots! I don’t think I’ve ever seen a newborn fight to stay awake quite this fiercly…but Miss ‘E’ was bound and determined to watch my every move! She wasn’t screaming at us (until the end), just watching with her curious little stare. She did give us about 6 minutes of pure sleep, so that was kind of her! Her Grandma made her this first little hat, which I love. Did I mention I love it? As in, I’ll pay you to make me a few! She could open up a little ‘Etsy shop’.

Oh, did I forget to mention baby ‘E’s big sister? She did awesome too, really worked the camera!

Still watching me…

Thanks for making the trek out here guys, you have an adorable (and fiesty) little addition to your family!

Okay, the computer is not my WHOLE life…but it kind of felt like someone died on Monday morning when I went to check my email and could only see a black screen. My hard drive crashed. Basically, I lost everything you put on a computer with the exception of pictures…those I carefully back up on an external drive. Why didn’t I back up any of my Word documents? Or my quickbooks??? idiot. Not to mention I lost photoshop and lightroom. I have a newer version of photoshop installed now, and it comes with a HUGE learning curve.
So I guess I’m starting out December with a fresh start…not exactly the kind of ‘fresh’ I was looking for, but I’ll muddle through!
In the mean time, check out this cute little bubba. I say it every time, 6 month olds are the BEST! They sit perfectly, they are not yet mobile and best of all, they think I’m funny! I know his momma’s been waiting to see how cute he looks-thanks for being patient!
